Your teacher John Smith, Back Care YogaTherapy course

Yoga teacher & Yoga Therapist John Smith offers signature Yin Yoga & meditation session at CY

John will present a grounding and nourishing 2 hours of Yin Yoga and Meditation on Sunday 12th October, 2025, focussing on Inner warmth, nurturing & grounding, releasing postures.

Winter is a time for hibernation, reflection and re-charging. Thge element of winter is water, carrying qualities such as adaptability, fluidity and devotion as we replenish our stores. The kidney (root) and bladder meridians are  activated during this practice & John’s workshop will address and balance energy flow through these meridians.

3-5pm, still only $45.

Yin Yoga Rejuvenation!

During the practice John will guide you through a series of opening and releasing, low and slow Yin poses coupled with various breath practices, healing mudras, guided meditations and a long Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep….zzzz). Most postures are floor based.

At CY, we believe that the slower practice of Yin helps to bring balance to the dominance of dynamic yang Yoga styles focusing on the physical body that have risen in popularity in the West. Yin Yoga is performed when the muscles are cool and relaxed to gently stress the body’s connective tissue (including the ligaments, tendons, fascia and bones) through long holds of postures.

Yin postures are supported by props, allowing students to work to an appropriate edge of sensation.

The practise targets particularly tension-rich areas of shoulders and hips, and can bring profound relief and well-being.

The benefits of a Yin practice include:

  • – A reduction of stress and anxiety by stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system;
  • – An increase to circulation of the blood flow
  • – Improved range of motion and  joint mobility by releasing the fascia and increasing  synovial fluid;
  • – Strengthening of the Immune system
  • – Improving the flow of chi or prana in the body.

John is a qualified Level 3 Yin yoga teacher who trained with IYTA’s Sarah Manning (trained from the author of The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga, Bernie Clark) and Jeff Lowe (Traditional Chinese Therapist in using Acupressure points with holding Yin postures).

John first discovered Yin Yoga attending regular classes in Brisbane where he not only experienced a deep sense of release from stress, but also the ability to explore the deep meditative experience that comes from this practice. John has also been an avid meditator for over 30 years and is keen to share with others the many physical, mental and spiritual benefits of Yoga.

Danielle will curate beautiful sound for this event plus John will use the healing, resonant tones of Singing bowls. We are currently offering these workshops (Yinshops!) every second month in 2025.
